The
Victoria adult division of St. John Ambulance is one of the most
dynamic divisions of its kind. Every year we attend approximately
400 public events including sports events, community fairs, live
concerts and cultural activities. This year in Victoria more than
four thousand people will receive top-notch first aid care from our
volunteers. In addition to the numerous events in our community
which we attend we have also sent resources and crews to assist in
other regions on occasions such as the Vancouver Indy and even
several times to aid in the evacuation of disasters.
Many people are surprised to learn that the St. John Ambulance Brigade is wholly volunteer. Although we work very closely with the Victoria Branch (the component of St. John which provides our world-renowned first aid classes), almost everything we are able to accomplish is a result of tens of thousands of volunteered hours on the part of our senior staff and our members. Additionally, we work very closely with our sister cadet division 61C.
Our funding is a result of the generous sponsorships from many sponsors such as the United Way, HSBC and many other private donations.
Our volunteer body is
extremely diverse with members of all ages and races, and is
continually changing. The common interest of all our volunteers
possess is to improve one's first aid abilities while giving
something worthwhile back to our community. We boast one of the
highest mean-training-levels in the province and is actively
engaged in evaluating new first-aid techniques, protocols and
equipment such as the AED.
Volunteering is one of the best ways to keep your first aid current while putting it to a good use for your community. If you are interested in learning more about joining Victoria's adult division click here.
If you
live in Victoria or have visited our city, you have most likely
seen one of our mobile first aid posts. We currently have three
mobile first aid posts which are able to serve as ambulances in the
event of a disaster. Although we facilitate the transportation by
BCAS of patients in circumstances which it is warranted, we
administer First Aid and do not transport as an ambulance
service.
